Kazuhito Fujiwara, President

Since its founding as Japan’s eighteenth national bank in 1877, the maintenance of sound operations has been the creed that The Eighteenth Bank has followed over the years as it has grown alongside the regional economy. Japan’s socio-economic structure has undergone immense changes in recent years, with a growing demand witnessed in the financial world as well for a more reliable and stable financial system. Particularly in light of the recent abolition of unlimited guarantees on deposits and the reorganization of many of Japan’s largest financial institutions, banks today are facing an operating environment that is more given to rapid and dramatic changes than ever before.
Amid such conditions, The Eighteenth Bank initiated the start of its “21st Century Marketing Strategy,” through which the Bank will strive to broaden the functions of its comprehensive financial services, attuning them to the financial needs of today, by ensuring that the Bank is able to maintain operational soundness and enhance its earning power without reliance on public funds. In this way, the Bank continues as always to respond swiftly and accurately to the needs of its customers, while making every effort to elevate a step further the socio-economic development of the entire region.
